CLE Hosts Renowned Autism Author and Speaker Ann Palmer

28 May 2010

by:

College Living Experience (CLE) invites parents, educators and community members on June 24 to hear well-known author Ann Palmer share lessons learned from raising a child with autism.

Palmer is the director of advocacy and chapter support for the Autism Society of North Carolina and was also awarded their Literary Work of the Year in 2007. She is the author of two books, “Realizing the College Dream with Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome: A Parent’s Guide to Student Success,” and “Parenting Across the Autism Spectrum: Unexpected Lessons We’ve Learned.”

Speaking from both personal and professional experience, Palmer will discuss challenges that students on the autism spectrum frequently face in college, and offer tips to help students and families prepare for this important transition. She will also discuss the importance of self-advocacy, and the parent’s role in supporting students.

Her presentation will be preceded by an open house for parents and educators who would like to learn more about CLE, a support program for college students with special needs. Tours of the CLE center will be offered, and staff will be available to answer questions.
